This is how I started off my day, making efforts to save some money.
I have had a day full of mixed emotions over this couponing thing. First of all, Im not a penny pincher, thrifty, or a cheapskate, but what girl doesn’t like a sale? I’ve just never had to work for one! I’m certainly not a “couponer” for that matter, but today I put my best effort into seeing what all the fuss was about. Seeing the show on extreme couponing spiked my interest and I’m all for a challenge. I have to say, I had quite the headache sorting and figuring where these coupons would make the most bang. Its not about having a few coupons in hand at any random store, its more about what deals are out there that you can combine your coupons with and even double that discount. And in some instances, getting money back. It took me a while to get all this, but there are tons of you tube videos on “couponing”.
My first experience just about took me out! I went to CVS and spent way too much time looking through the isles looking for the items that give back CVS Bucks. With these items you can also deduct coupons you may have on top of it. SO, I bought some nice lotions I didn’t really need, some razors, deodorants and other toiletries, but I sort-of got paid to buy them with this system. All was well until I stepped in line and an grand-ma was behind the counter ringing me up. Slowly she passed through the items with each coupon I had, and the line behind me got bigger and bigger. Of course there’s only one lane open! I start to sweat a little. The thought crossed my mind to just quit and walk out the door as she lolly-gagged through my items. I got so frustrated and in a hurry that I didn’t pay attention to see if things were ringing up correct. I was just mostly embarrassed that I was now the one in the line holding everyone up, the one nobody wants to be behind.
I just about had a screaming fit when I got to the car. In fact, I did. I shouted, “never, ever, ever will I do this again!”
It took me a moment to settle down and I hadn’t even made it to the grocery store yet. I contemplated not going and calling it a day! But, I went over my receipt and yes there was one over charge but I did save about $20 bucks and I earned $20 more bucks to spend on the next trip. So I went on to Kroger.
I had a lot more ease in the grocery store. I studied the sale ads for the items I needed and found the coupons that went along with them. On top of a really great sale Kroger was having and the few coupons that I had, all in all, I saved about $80 bucks. I didn’t bring my bill down, but I did come home with a lot more food. I see how the game works, but it is work to pull it off! Im not real sure how some of these folks have multiple carts and don’t even spend $50 but hey, I think they earned it by all the work they put into it. The time it takes has to be worth it to you.
Together with both trips I saved around $110 bucks. My headache started wearing off while unloading all the groceries! ha! Im not sure I will be a regular couponer but I will be certain to pay more attention to the sales.
It was fun for a day, I guess:)
Happy Shopping! Id much rather tell you when Nordstrom is having a sale!
