In this book Im reading by Joseph Prince, he talks about the “doing” that takes place in the lives of believers. When we live under the law of the old covenant, we try to “do” our way into righteousness. About a year ago I had a revelation of this in my own life. You can’t work your way into righteousness and you cant even dress your way into it. I’ve seen people dress holy(if there is such a way, manmade!) and be meaner than snakes! We are the righteousness of God through, and only through Christ Jesus. You can have your list of standards or be a rulekeeper to be successful in the world, but those systems don’t work with God. We can look the part all we want but it will never measure up! Any blessing on our lives is unmerited!
God wants us to rest in His work. Christ said, “It is finished”! When he took our place on the cross, everything that we need to overcome to in this life is now a completed work! It’s not necessary for us to add to it! His blessings are undeserved, unearned and unmerited.
As Pastor Joseph shares in this book, sitting down is the picture of the believer resting in the finished work of Jesus. Ephesians 2:4But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,
And for those who think that sanctification takes place on the day of salvation, as I once did, read
Hebrews 10:14 “For by one offering he hath perfected forever those who are being sanctified.”
We were perfected at the cross, not after a 10 step process! I believe with all my heart the greatest way to a sinners heart is to tell them of God’s grace. The law magnifies sin and tell us how unworthy we are. The purpose of the law was to show us our need of a Savior! BUT we are no longer under the law, we are under grace! Sin loses its appeal when you encounter grace. The grace of God compels us to live lives without sin~
