Is your mind spinning from all the news this week?
I see heartache in so many directions.
Some are personal battles, and some reveal the inhumane hate that exists in our world. Whether it is personal for you, or you share in the pain of those affected by the tragic events this week in Boston, it is pain. Sometimes severe pain. Pain that reveals our dependence on the hope we have in Jesus.
What are we supposed to do when it seems like God has left us to fend for ourselves?
What are we supposed to do when the darkness hovers like billows of smoke?
We pray. We hit our knees and we pray.
In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.
Prayer is miraculous. Through prayer you have the power to engage heaven, and the authority to command angels.
Meditate- Think on things that are lovely, that are good, that are of good report. The Message Bible translates Phillipians 4:6-8
Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.
Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.
This scripture is my focus and I use it to push back against confusion. Our heads fill us with impending doom and we have to replace those thoughts with praiseworthy ones. Some things can rattle us so much we may question who is really in charge here! If evil can cause us to doubt, then evil has won our thoughts. Be quick to recognize where those thoughts are coming from and aware that no negative idea is in your head from God. Though we cant deny that evil is present in the earth, we know that the love of God is greater.
Joshua 1:9 “The Lord my God is with me wherever I go.”
We must never forget.
