Im reading The Shack and this could be the best book I’ve ever read. My husband bought it and I swiped it from him while we were on vacation. It is so hard to put down that I literally stayed up half the nights on vacation from being so absorbed in it! This book has brought such clarity to many issues that I have been facing especially on relationships and hierarchy. This book has also confirmed to me the lifestyle of prayer that God desires of us, real communion, real relationship. Im only half way through it and it has rocked me to the core!
I could’t sleep too soundly last night because of some news that grieved me deeply. Throughout the night I kept hearing the phrase “repairer of the broken walls”. I knew this was a scripture in Isaiah and that God was trying to speak to me. I love the message bible and I couldn’t wait to read it today to find out what I needed.
Somewhere in the middle of the 58th chapter is says:
If you get rid of unfair practices, quit blaming victims, quit gossiping about each other’s sins, If you are generous with the hungry and start giving yourselves to the down and out,
Your lives will begin to glow in darkness, your shadowed lives will be bathed in sunlight.
I will always show you where to go, Ill give you a full life in the emptiest of places-firm muscles, strong bones. You’ll be like a well-watered garden, a gurgling spring that never runs dry, You’ll use the old rubble of past lives to build anew, rebuild the foundations from out of your past. You’ll be known as the one who can fix anything,(Repairer of Broken Walls) restore old ruins, rebuild and renovate, make the community livable again.
These are promises that we can attain by living out life as Jesus did. There is more to gain than just the Malachi 3:10 blessing. Its great to go to church and give your tithe and offering, but what can we do besides that to obtain a full life? Sharing, inviting, putting, and being: the four things God said He was interested in.
Something else to consider…
1. Your righteousness will pave your way. ( These are the works that amount to something.)
2. Do this and your lives will turn around at once. (Could this be the working out of our salvation?)
3. Your lives will begin to glow in the darkness. (Forget about things that appear “bright” in the eyes of man, God illuminates those who carry out His commandment to love others like we love ourselves.)
4. Your shadowed lives will be bathed in sunlight. (While we have a past or shadow that follows us around, we stay bathed in His light.)
In the NIV, he beginning of these verses starts off by saying,” If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk(or your righteous one) and spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed…..then it goes on with the same message.
A pointing finger=the yoke of oppression….enough said!
Every care, every weight, every failure, every mistake, yours or someone else’s, cast it on the Lord. We have to turn to prayer!
